The registry's answer
Domains are answered over RDAP, the modern whois, by the registry that runs their ending (.com, .info, .dev); a few endings still answer only the classic whois (.tr, .io, .de), shown as they wrote it. IP addresses and AS numbers are answered by the regional registry that handed them out. Most registries hide a person’s name and address for privacy.
