      How to play

Name the dish in each photo to fill the grid, in English or Turkish. The puzzle is solved when every letter is right.

      The clues

Every clue is a photo of a dish from The Table. Beside it are its number and direction, its shelf as a hint (Desserts, say) and how many letters it has, word by word when the name has more than one; once the word is right, the dish’s name takes the shelf’s place, with the other language’s in parentheses. Every clue’s photo also sits in the panel, Across then Down.

      The answers

Answers picks the language, English to start. An English answer is the dish’s English name in capitals, its spaces and marks dropped (Künefe is KUNEFE); a Türkçe answer keeps Ç, Ğ, İ, Ö, Ş and Ü as letters of their own. Without Turkish keys (No, to start), type C, G, I, O, S or U and the square takes its Turkish letter; with Yes, the letters must be exact.

      Levels

Easy lays up to 8 words in a grid at most 11 squares a side, Medium up to 11 words and Hard up to 14, both at most 13 a side; Medium to start, Easy on a phone. Every puzzle is new, each word crossing another, drawn from every dish whose name fits. Until your first letter, Level and Answers deal a new puzzle at once; then they are locked until it is solved or New game deals the next one.

      Filling in

Tap a square or a clue’s photo in the panel, then type: the letters fill the word and move along it. A second tap on a square where two words cross turns to the other word, and the ‹ and › beside the clue step to the previous and next one. Reveal a letter fills the selected square for you, and it can’t be typed over.

      Checking

With Mistakes on Show, a wrong letter shows in coral, a word filled in right lights up once, and the dish’s name appears with its photo. On Hide, nothing is checked: a word lights up once it is full, and the names wait for the end. There is no clock: take your time. When every letter is right, the puzzle is solved: the grid ripples and Solved shows over the panel.

      Controls

Tap or click a square, then type; on a phone, its own keyboard opens. With a keyboard, the letters fill, ↑ ← ↓ → move to the next square that way, and Backspace or Delete clears a letter (from an empty square, the one before it).

The game in progress (the puzzle, your letters, the letters revealed, Mistakes and Turkish keys) is kept in this browser once it starts and comes back as you left it; New game replaces it.
